Bookish Babble: Y16.W8

babble3The “It had to be done” Edition:

The Twilight Saga movies would have to be the most meme’d book to movie adaptation of all time. There are so many meme’s bagging the shit out of the series. So today’s task wasn’t finding content for this Babble, because the content is endless, but finding funny or intelligent content – well yeah, that’s wasn’t so easy.

I purposely went looking for the Raptor watches Edward watching Bella meme because I remember finding it amusing the first time I saw it.

That then lead to a bunch of Raptor and Dino memes that were much better than the twilight ones.

Hehehehehehe…

Oh yeah, “bookish” babble – Back to Twilight.

Yeah OK, I did laugh the first time I saw this one!

Yeah valid point meme maker, valid point.

DAMN! I hadn’t even thought about that until I saw this meme for the first time today haha.

funny twilight meme creep

Yeah… Who’s up for more Raptor Memes? ME!

Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined (Twilight #5) by Stephenie Meyer

Published October 6th 2015 by Little, Brown

Celebrate the tenth anniversary of Twilight! This special double-feature book includes the classic novel, Twilight, and a bold and surprising reimagining, Life and Death, by Stephenie Meyer.

Readers will relish experiencing the deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful love story of Bella and Edward through fresh eyes.

Twilight has enraptured millions of readers since its first publication in 2005 and has become a modern classic, redefining genres within young adult literature and inspiring a phenomenon that has had readers yearning for more. The novel was a #1 New York Times bestseller, a #1USA Today bestseller, a Time magazine Best Young Adult Book of All Time, an NPR Best-Ever Teen Novel, and a New York Times Editor’s Choice. The Twilight Saga, which also includes New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella, and The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide, has sold nearly 155 million copies worldwide.

Meyer’s is getting a lot of flak for this book and lot of people are upset that there is nothing new :-|. The gender rolls are reversed Bella is now Beau and Edward is now Eydyth. Meyer puts in an explanation at the start as to why she went down this path, trying to prove that Bella was never a damsel in distress, that she was a human in distress in an paranormal world.

It was pretty much a carbon copy of twilight, other than a twist with the ballet studio show down. I really enjoyed the alternative ending for Beau, even though it was EXTREMELY RUSHED, but I wouldn’t have wanted it to go down that way for Bella.
I would say that while I preferred the original, that’s only because when I first read it, those ten years ago, I liked imagining I was Bella :-).

So yes most of the main elements are the same: human meats ‘good’ vampire, human figures out ‘good’ vampire is a vampire, human and ‘good’ vampire fall in love, a ‘bad’ vampire tires to kill human and all the ‘good’ vampires go into overdrive to protect human, ordinary human outwits ‘good’ vampires and heads off to their doom.

Bella goes on to have more human adventures and catastrophes before becoming a ‘good’ vampire.
Beau comes out of this book as a ‘good’ vampire and has to face Sam’s wolf-pack.

I really don’t know how to rate this one, because any rating I give will be because of my the Twilight Saga as a whole. Twilight got me into reading, and why yes now that i’m more well read I can see that it’s not the most well written or imaginative story out there, but I could never hate it. it’s forever a part of me and I will irrationally love it till the end of time 😛

So in conclusion: if you weren’t so keen on Twilight, don’t read this you’ll hate it. If you were a twi-hard just take it as re-reading of twilight again and you’ll be all good.

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by Capturyyyy

May 19th’s Top Ten Tuesday is Freebie YOUR CHOICE OF TOPIC and because this is my first Top Ten Tuesday, I was like ummmmmmmm. So I read back though the recent list and went for April 7th’s Top Ten Characters You’d Like To Check In With.

20150517_123826

1) Percy Jackson  – Is he as adorable in his late thirty’s? Did he marry Annabeth and live happily ever after in New Rome? (Percy Jackson and the Olympians series & The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan).

2 & 3-ish) Mr Darcy and all those Bennett sisters – Did Mary and Kitty ever find a man? Did Lydia ever grow up? Did Lizzy and Jane live happily ever after with their wealthy men? (Pride and Prejudiced by Jane Austen).

4) Albert – Did he find the promise land, old Australia? Did he find where his heart and soul belonged? What happened to that wonderful platypus!!!! (Albert of Adelaide by Howard L. Anderson).

5) TJ – What adventures and mischief did he get into once he parted ways with Albert? (Albert of Adelaide by Howard L. Anderson).

6 & 7) Wanda and Melanie – What became of their lives and loves? How did the earth hold up? Did the humans take over again? (The Host by Stephenie Meyer) on closer look at this it seem that Meyer was going to turn it into a trilogy, but back when it came out and I read it in 2008 it was a one off as far as I know??

8) Seth – I loved that little wolf boy, what ever happened to him and his sister? (The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer).

9) All the Characters in We all looked up – Did the meteor kill them all? Did some of the earth survive? (We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach).

10) Luna Lovegood – What ever happened to her? Did she get happily ever after with kids? Did she continue the Quibbler for her father or did she get herself some other magical profession (The Harry Potter phenomenon by J.K. Rowling).

Midnight Sun

Midnight Sun (Twilight #1.5) by Stephenie Meyer

Goodreads Synopsis:

Midnight Sun is the much anticipated retelling of Twilight from Edward Cullen’s perspective. An unedited partial draft was illegally leaked onto the internet in 2008; consequently, author Stephenie Meyer put the project on indefinite hold.

Shortly afterward, she posted a letter to her fans on her website including a link to the entire partial draft of the book so that those who wanted to read it could do so legally and with her consent; see URL for more information.

My Thoughts:

Before I start I am going to point out that I am a Twilight Saga fan, I have the four books as well as the Bree Tanner novella and the official guide with all the character background stories that Meyer’s put out.

So this is the first books story again but from Edwards point of view. While I was reading it I couldn’t help thinking that I needed to read Twilight again as I don’t remember the events happening the same way. I found that Midnight Sun dragged on in some places. But I must admit I did like the parts where Edward was with his family, the bits we didn’t get to see, that we could only guess at when Bella was telling the story. I’m really upset that Meyer’s doesn’t intend to finish it because completed and polished up it could be quite good and would fit really nicely into The Saga to be read after Twilight.

My advice is; if you thought the first twilight was ok, don’t bother reading this, but if you loved the first Twilight than you’ll enjoy this to. There really are some amusing bits where we get to “hear” what everyone around Edward is thinking.

2.5 out of 5 stars.
