Delta Force Vampire: Insurgency by Alex Shaw

Delta Force Vampire: Insurgency by Alex Shaw

Goodreads Synopsis:

The Government made him Deadly, Vampires made him Immortal…

A new hero and a new genre from Kindle bestselling author Alex Shaw.

Brad Black, call-sign ‘Peter Pan’ is a member of America’s elite Delta Force unit. Tasked to recon a tunnel network in use by the Taliban it is just another day in the sandpit for the Delta Boys until something attacks them in the darkness.

Presumed Killed in Action, Black is abducted by a shadowy figure before being forced to cross the inhospitable Afghan wilderness to be reunited with what is left of his team.

Meanwhile a General from Russian Military Intelligence (GRU) arrives at Firebase Python brining news of a Cold War weapons experiment so shocking that its existence has until now remained top secret.

Horrific secrets buried in the Afghan mountains for a quarter of a century are about to be unleashed.

My Thoughts:

It took me a little while to get into this book, but in the end I did enjoy it.

I was quite impressed with Shaw’s Vampires; they had some very traditional traits and in other ways felt more human and believable than others I’ve read stories about. There was a line in the book that stated that all humans are born with the Vampire gene and that’s it just waiting to be activated – I really like this theory!!

You get Action, War, Friendship, allied enemies and some spunky Delta boys that become spunky Vampire Delta boys. This is the first book in a new series by Shaw and it will be interesting to see where it goes.

I’m giving it three Stars. It is a good book suited more to anyone into armed forces action adventures. For me personally if there had been some sexual tension or a little bit of romance it would have made more four or five stars, but that’s purely my own reading style. Give it a read, you won’t regret it.

Arms Around Me

My Mind the Menace a debut poetry collection by new to the publishing world poet Sarah Fairbairn. That’s Me That’s Me.

This is a collection from a darker period in Sarah’s life, a period she is happy to say she made it through. Here as a teaser is two poems from the collection available now at Smashwords.

Arms around me

I want to run and hide

Down deep inside

How happy I would be

You no longer poisoning my mind

Please set my soul free

I’d no longer need to lie

Without your arms around me

But I’m frozen in pain

Shame won’t let me leave

The failure I’ve become

Is unbecoming to me

You no longer by my side

I’d set my soul free

But with you till I die

I told you I would be

So here still I lie

With your arms around me

I feel the need to cry

But the tears won’t leave me

While you wallow in sorrow and self-pity

Why don’t you just leave me?

All the past tears we’ve cried

With your arms around me

I’m trying to figure out why

And if I should leave

But with you till I die

I told you I would be

So here still I lie

With your arms around me

About the Author  That’s Me That’s Me.

When Sarah Fairbairn Isn’t at her day job, dancing around annoying the other employees at her family’s mechanical workshop, or running around and looking after her two boys, her Nine month old Son and her Husband, she locks herself away in her Bat Cave or rather Sac Cave, fully fitted out with an old lounge chair and dining table as a writing desk, typing out her blog posts, trying to get some reading done and or cruising the web. Her poetry is usually scribbled on bits of paper scattered over her work desk, car and handbag, as thoughts always strike her at the most inconvenient moments or when she is without her much loved tablet PC. She has been writing poetry since High School and has a passion for reading, although having a small child leaves her less time read these days as she would like.

Take me home

My Mind the Menace my debut poetry collection is out now, This poem is included in it. https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/423080

RIOT’S REDEMPTION

The clock is ticking

So fucking what

When did I ever care about that

They drag me down into their den

And I’ve got to try and claw my way out again

I click my heels together

A million times

Looks like they aren’t magic

These shoes of mine

My soul bleeds and bleeds until I’m bone dry

But why the fuck can’t I just die

I sit here

But no tears can I cry

Sit here and wonder why

Please world leave me the hell alone

Please heart take me home

Shame

My Mind the Menace a debut poetry collection by new to the publishing world poet ***ME*** Sarah Fairbairn.

This is a collection from a darker period in my life, a period I am happy to say I made it through. Here as a teaser is one of the poems from the collection available now at Smashwords.

Shame

You are self-scented

But self-sufficient you are not

Your arguments for your behaviour are rot

You will never grow up

You were not taught how

A responsible adult is all I ask for

All I get is a childish howl

You are never happy with what you’ve got

And some of what you think you’ve got

You have not

You lost my love

Betrayed by my fraying heart

From this life we started living

I did depart

I am not only to blame

Although I’ll take on all the shame

To washed up madness you have driven me

A life full of joy

You have not given me

To think I once thought you might be

The one who was meant for me

Seeds don’t sow with only neglect

I am sure one day you will reflect

And regret you did not look after me

Now watch me take away

What you thought was your happy

Caught: Friday Fictioneers 100 word story challenge

I dash as fast as I can into the cover of the forest, but as soon as I reach the safety of cover, I trip on a gnarled tree root. My ankle is screaming in pain. I try to get to my feet but my jeans are caught. I hear the mutant unicorn call out to its herd. I free myself and run as fast as I can. Even without the injured ankle I can’t match the speed and agility of the wicked monstrosities that are hunting me down. I can hear them closing in behind me. They’ve caught me.

Salvation by A.M.C.

Synopsis:

Nearly 10 years after witnessing the death of his family during an alien invasion, Alex is recruited as part of an elite group tasked with engaging the aliens at their home planet before they return to enslave mankind. However the group soon realise that their foe and the Galaxies are far more deadly and ruthless than they feared, and learn from another alien race the true extent of the 5 power forces which wield unlimited supremacy. After accidentally harnessing one of these powers it becomes clear that Alex’s fate is intertwined with the destiny of the power forces, and he becomes embroiled in a battle with the vast armies of his dark enemy across the Galaxies, leading to a momentous battle which will define the destiny for all living beings throughout the cosmos. Fast paced, full of action but with a real violent edge this book is ideal for anyone who enjoys Star Wars, Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones!

My thoughts:

At $1.11 this book is a bargain AND It’s on sale for FREE right NOW. You’d be mad not to go out and grab it.

I was informed by a fellow book lover that I must read it this book, that it was the best book that they had read in ages. So I’d like to say thank you  for pushing me to do so and of course thank you   aka A.M.C for writing it.

Anyway on with the review – So I went in with high expectations.

We get plenty of action, multiple worlds and races teaming up and fighting a common foe. There is big plot twist early on that I for one did not see coming, but then again maybe if I had read the synopsis first, things might have been different.

You get drawn into the character of Alex and his fight to save not only the world but the entire universe. Go Humans!!!! It is a very long story so be prepared for sleepless nights until you’ve finished – well it is an epic sci fi fantasy so you’d expect nothing less.

I can’t fault it, the story had me NEEDING to know how it ended. I’m giving it four out of five stars. It’s only losing the one star from a perfect score because of a personal preference. There was no romance in this intergalactic thriller and I like there to be a little bit in everything I read, but never the less I was still impressed. I got excited when we met the beautiful sensual killing machine Symlia. I rejoiced as I thought Alex was getting a queen, but alas it wasn’t meant to be.

Now I will say no more as I do not want to give too much away – GO and read it yourself 🙂 >>>

April, a month of poetry…I need your help!

A Life Among The Pages

As many of us poetry people know, April is National Poetry Month
(though in today’s globally connected world, it should be international since it unofficially kind of is). So I want to set a goal: I want to write a minimum of…um…two poems every week in April.

I know this might not sound like much of a goal, but I haven’t written many poems in way too long of a time. I need to ease into it, and I need some help getting back into the writing mood in general. This is where you all come in.

I know many people who follow the site are poets in one way or another, whether published or more closeted poets. So I want to ask a few things of you:

  • What helps inspire you out of a writing slump? I’m sure there’s no definite “cure” for a writing slump, but maybe some…

Death Trap: Friday Fictioneers 100 word story challenge

This is my first attempt at the Friday Fictioneers 100 word story challenge, so be kind LOL 🙂

Death Trap

I stood breathing heavily, being as still as I could possibly be as the old elevator clunked and rattled around me.

It ground to a halt on the top floor. With an ear piercing screech I scraped the old metal gates open and stepped out. I let out a sigh, I hadn’t plummeted to my death and the decrepit old thing had managed to struggle, surge and take me up to the loft in this rank old warehouse.

What was he thinking? I swear my boyfriend is nuts for purchasing this old rundown warehouse, the lift alone is a death trap.

Please child stop crying

This poem came to me this morning while I had a sooky, sleepy baby sitting in my lap, I thought you all might enjoy it.

Please child stop crying

Yes there is no denying

You’re in pain

Please child stop crying

Your tears are driving me insane

Please child stop crying

The way you are screaming

With your wet cheeks gleaming

The neighbours will think you’re dying

I keep and keep trying

To sooth and calm you

Please child stop crying

You’re making me cry to

Please kid I’ve only got 2 hands

And I’ve done all I can

And it’s really hard to think at 2am

Please child stop crying

Go to sleep

Come on there’s no harm in trying

Mummy will pass out on the floor and try to
