And then some other stuff happened (Thursday Recap 1)

So I’m connecting – I’m Facebooking, Tweeting, Goodreading and even getting all up in those Google+ Circles (see connect with me page for links to all my social media sites) and as most of you probably know already I recently added YouTube and Instagram to all that *ME* in the and on the World Wide Web.

Yeaaaaah and when was the last time I got to do a decent post on my BLOG Ummmmm Damn You Social Media for taking up all my time!!

I’ve forgotten my point – Damn short attention span.

Oh yeah that’s my POINT!

I spend too much time “connecting” I haven’t written much in months.

But anyways at least i’ve found some sort of direction for my YouTube channel – yeah thats kind of worth it – Each Thursday I’m going to attempt to do a “diary type” 60 second (or there abouts) video recap of my week and on the first Sunday of each month I’m going to record one of my Poems. YAYYYYYY!!!!!

So here is my first Thursday Ramble, it’s rather rough as i just slapped it all together to see if it’s something i could work with in the future 🙂 enjoy :-).

Writing Update

I’m currently in the process of finalizing my second poetry eBook ‘The World Around Me’. I’m also in the process of creating a Tree Book that merges my two eBook collections together, but I’m struggling to come up with a name I’m happy with so that makes it a bit hard to go forward with any art work LOL. I will / must have these two books published before July, as In July I’ll be starting studying for a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety and will be flat out trying to tackle that as fast as possible. Once I’ve got my WH&S certification I intend to focus on my fiction writing. I’ve got a whole world that has been floating around in my head since I was a little girl and I’m determined to get it out (or die trying). I’ve also got a short story and two flash fiction pieces that I really enjoyed writing and I want to see if I can extend them with the possibility of turning them into Novellas.

The Calling by Louise G. White

The Calling by

Goodreads Synopsis:

On the run and hiding from the suits, Carolyn’s life is far from straightforward. After her mother and brother go missing in a most extraordinary way, (through a hole to another world which appears in the kitchen wall!), she is determined to track them down and bring them home. But life is never that easy! Rescued and protected by a group of unusual and like minded people , Carolyn hones her magic and fighting skills. Whilst answering a call to retrieve a human from another world she is faced with a quick decision and ends up bringing a demon back with her. Little did she know what effect this demon would have on her. As each day passes her strengths grow and her magic develops to assist her in her quest to track down her family, but there are decisions to make that will affect the rest of her life.

My Thoughts:

Wow this book was a rollercoaster, I don’t even know where to begin.

The first couple of chapters are hard to get into as there is so much thrown at you and so much going on, but you immediately fall for the main character Carolyn and you can’t stop yourself from reading as you NEED need to know what happens to her and you can’t sleep until you know she safe from the suits.

Oh dear sweet Carolyn, her family and the life that she knew is ripped from her when she is fifteen. Carolyn spends the next two years as a possessed incoherent killing machine, ruled only by primal instincts she never knew existed inside her. It isn’t until she meets Note (spoiler- he’s not human) that she truly regains her self. The thrill ride that becomes their life on the run draws you in even more than you thought possible. Eventually Carolyn finds her place with a bunch of ”special” people just like her and comes to peace with what and who she is – Only to have the story finish on the dramatic cliffhanger that rips the whole world and her relationships to shreds.

This was a fast paced, actioned packed romance/ Fantasy/ Sci-fi Novel that was a great start to kick of a new series of awesomeness. I really think there is a little bit for everyone here.

I’m going to give it four stars. I really think the only reason I didn’t fully love the story was that I fell for Ethan (is human), not Note as the leading “man”. Note gets Carolyn (to an extent, but I won’t give away too much) and Ethan is left to struggle with his frustrating and unrequited feelings – Yep Ethan I feel for ya buddy.

I wanted Carolyn with Ethan but she ends up with Note and don’t get me wrong I loved Note as well. I can’t really explain it. I tend to do that; I wanted Jacob not Edward (in new moon & eclipse, but fell for Edward in breaking dawn), Homer not Lee (in tomorrow when the war began, the whole ten books I was like “no not Lee, choose HOMER!! that handsome cheeky greek devil thats been your best friend always!!! my Mum and most of the population where Pro Lee though LOL)

Anyways a Frustrating, Fascinating, Captivating read and Fours Stars. I await the next installment to find out what happens to Carolyn “The Destroyer” next.

What Book?

What book should I read next?
I’ve got sooooo many on my ‘to read’ list that I can’t choose!
World uttering decision trying to be made here people!
I’ve still got the biggest book hangover from the last book I read (Take me to your reader – see my last book review in the ‘Books I’ve read recently’ section) It was so wonderful I can’t move on.
I think I’m going to have to close my eyes, spin around and point at a book.

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1)

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1) by Rick Riordan

Gosh dang! Where to start!

Synopsis from goodreads.com:

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school… again. And that’s the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he’s angered a few of them. Zeus’ master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus’ stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

My thoughts:

I made the fatal mistake of seeing the movie adaptation of this book before reading it! Hence I roughly knew what was going to go down and kept trying to place the parts of the movie into the book. The movie was good, the book was better, but I knew too much so it didn’t really pull me in at first.  Luckily I know nothing of the other four in the series and don’t intent to find out until I’m reading them. Also seeing the movie first, I had figured the main character to be around fifteen/ sixteen (forgive me it has been a couple of years since I’ve seen the film) and in the book he is only twelve. I found Percy being only twelve and doing the things he was doing a bit hard to swallow, I had to keep reminding myself Harry was only eleven at the beginning of his adventures. I had to get my head in the right mind space to enjoy this book, I struggled but by the end it had got me and I will go on to read the next book. So while seeing the movie made this book less impressive, it did introduce me to the series and that’s a good thing.

I would recommend this book to a younger audience and those still in touch with their inner child. While I rate this book a three I think I could have been a four or five if I hadn’t seen the darn movie.

Most of the time if I see a movie I like the look of and see that’s it’s based on a book, I read the book, that’s only fair to the original story and that’s how I found Lee Child and Jack Reacher (now there’s a movie that DID NOT live up to its book) I read all the twilights before I saw the movies etc etc. In fact bar the Harry Potter series this is the only time I saw the movie first, I watched all the Potter movies before I opened the first book, but they were so good that the movies and the books stand up as awesome on their own. Never again my friends will I watch the movie first, always always read the book first.

Books I’ve Read Recently

I’ve decided to create a section on my blog ‘’Books I’ve read recently’’ dedicated to the books I read.

I love to read, but can never seem to find the time, especially now with being back a work part time and a mum to a five month old.

I am really bad at time delegation at home, fine at work, but I get home and all my plans go to shit.

So if you’re interested in any of the books below, stick around. If you’ve read any of them and would care to give me your thoughts on them that would be great, leave me a comment or if you’ve got any books you really love and would like to share, I’d love to hear about them.

So the list of books I’m going to start with:

“Second Son” a Jack Reacher short story – Lee Child

Albert of Adelaide – Howard L Anderson (reading this again because it’s awesome!)

Pet Rescue’s Amazing Dog Stories

Bad Luck and Trouble (11th of 18 Reacher Novels) – Lee Child

Mop Stroud, A life in two acts with many scenes – Betty Stroud

Shadows of The Realm, Book 1 of the circle of Talia – Dionne Lister

A Time of Darkness, Book 2 of the circle of Talia – Dionne Lister (I’ve been holding off reading these two books as there’s a third on the way and I know once I’ve read the first two I’ll be hanging out for the third)

Close Call: A Doris and Jemma Vadgeventure – Eloise March

The Killing Floor (1st of 18 Reacher Novels) – Lee Child

Bitter Greens – Kate Forsyth

Die Trying (2nd of 18 Reacher Novels) – Lee Child

Initiate – Tara Maya (This is another long series, so I am scared I’ll fall in love and want them all)

The Salmon of Doubt – Douglas Adams

Casting Shadows Everywhere – L.T. Vargus

Pride & Prejudice – Jane Austen (Reading again >> before reading) >>

Mr Darcy’s Diary – Amanda Grange  (and >>)

Longbourn – Jo Baker

Cloud Atlas – David Mitchell

Water for the elephants – Sara Gruen

Hmmmm does the randomness of the list say anything about me lol.

I’ve written these down now,

I’ve said I’ll read them,

So I have to,

Right?

YES RIGHT!!!

Give it a few weeks and the list will probably double, especially since I’ll still have another nine Reacher novels sitting on my book shelf waiting and another 75 eBooks on my tablet WAITING, as well as I really miss Ron, Hermione, Harry, Hagrid and Dobby and need to visit Hogwarts again soon.
