His little legs pumped up and down as fast as they could. He rounded the corner by flinging himself round the light poll.

He could see the bus up ahead, it was just pulling away from the curb.

“No please wait” he yelled, but it was no good. He’d missed the bus again.

He sat down in the dirt by the side of the road and cried.

He’d really been looking forward to the trifle his mumma was cooking for desert. But all he was going to get was a bruised backside from his daddy.

He’d missed the bus again.

NaNoWriMo: I’ll give it a go

crest-05e1a637392425b4d5225780797e5a76For those who don’t know NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. On the 1st November each year a bunch of crazy people partake in NaNoWriMo, working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30. That averages out to 1667 words each day for 30 days – scary.

I will be one of these crazy people this year!!!! I had intended on partaking last year but psyched myself out.

I’ve got four book reviews to publish before November and a blogiversy post on the 28th. I intend to keep up my Sunday Bookish Babble post, but I won’t be posting much else in November.

I have no idea what I’ll be writing for NaNoWriMo. I’ve got some short stories / flash fiction pieces that I might extend on, but i’ll probably just sit down on the first of November and see what comes out.

LOVE The Fox by Brremaud and Bertolucci

LOVE volume 2: THE FOX by Frederic Brremaud and Federico Bertolucci

Pub date: 10th November 2015 by Magnetic Press and Diamond Book Distributors

Thank you, Brremaud, Bertolucci and NetGalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis mk3

“Visually lavish and unforgettable.” – Kirkus Second in the celebrated series of wildlife image (2)graphic novels, author Frederic Brremaud and illustrator Federico Bertolucci turn their lens on a northeastern woodland setting to follow a single fox through its daily journey through the trees and along the seafront. Only this is not just another day — a spectacular volcanic eruption throws the area into chaos, sending creatures of all kinds scurrying for safety. But the intrepid little fox surprising decides to run into the danger instead of away! What could send this tiny hunter towards the danger? This all-ages title will appeal to children and adults for its breathtaking illustration and gripping adventure drama.

My Thoughts mk3

Wow! Simply stunning. I was mesmerised watching this little fox as seemly the world was ending around it.

A volcano is irrupting and all the animals are going berserk. Most of the animals are trying to escape the volcano, while some use the fleeing herds to their advantage for an easy meal. The little fox is all the time battling its way towards the volcano. And I was thinking, what is he doing? Well the little fox I assumed was male, is female and she was on a mission to save her pup, awwww. Of course she manages to save her pup and it’s beautiful.

Not one word of text is used to tell the story. But the detailed and dramatic illustrations over the eighty pages tells us the story perfectly. Five Stars. I NEED to get myself a hardback copy of this. Go mummy fox go!

Bookish Babble Y15.W5

Although it should be called Book Shelf Babble today:babble3IMG_0564IMG_0569

This is so cute. I’d want a slightly wider version so my son, Riley and I could still fit on it together as he gets older. I’d have the fabric in a patterned blue or green and put it in his room with all his books in it for story time :-). Riley has shelves for his books, some in his bedroom and some in the lounge room. I think this would be an attractive and useful way to put them all together. Maybe it can be a project for Riley and his Granddad once Riley is a little older (and Granddad has retired) HINT HINT :-P.

This is really awesome. especially for smaller spaces

A Tardis bookshelf, like seriously who wants to build me one! HINT HINT. My thirtieth birthday is in sixteen months HINT HINT 🙂 :-).

My soul needs some version of this in the lounge room. The whole idea of a Tardis as a bookshelf is the most perfect marriage of two awesome things ever. Just think about what the Tardis is, as in all the infinite adventures it takes the doctor on – perfect place to store books that can take you on infinite adventures!!!!

This is the current book shelf space I have for myself – I have three shelves and my husband Shane has two. If it’s on my shelf I either loved it or haven’t read it yet, everything else gets passed on. Please ignore our sad looking DVD shelf on the right, which are stacked two deep and a total mess.

What’s your dream bookshelf/ home library look like?  Hell, what’s your current bookshelf situation look like? I’d love to see, book shelf envy anyone! Tweet me a photo @SarahSacaKat if you feel like showing off :-).

Until next time 🙂 Enjoy your shelves :-).

Killer Carnival: Friday Fictioneers 100 Word Story Challenge

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly challenge set by Rochelle Fields where writers around the world create 100 word stories inspired by the one image.

I had never been a fan of carnival rides, they always felt dodgy.
We were flying, spinning around three stories above the ground. I could hear the metal creaking and groaning.

Then it happened.

I heard a growling grinding noise, then a metallic ping.
Next thing I knew I was plummeting towards the ground.
I thought about how devastated my mum would be, how happy my step-sister would be. I thought about my old dog, Gumby.

Then suddenly I wasn’t falling anymore. I was flying upwards with two big strong arms cradling me.
That was the day I met Superman.

hero engine banner

hero engine‘Cool’ Jim Quig has one love : his job. And he likes it that way. While Jim protects the streets, the heroes take all the credit. He’s fine with that, all cops are. Sort of. So when the director of the Super Hero Initiative (SHI) asks Jim to help solve a mystery plaguing SHI headquarters, he’s not interested. Who cares if an ancient artifact known as the Hero Engine has been destroyed? Or if every super hero in existence was altered into their superhuman state by the device? It’s not Jim’s problem. The ‘capes’ can solve their own mystery.

The director doesn’t take no for answer and Jim’s task is to not only find out who destroyed the Engine, but why one hero has gone AWOL. For the last fifty-two years, SHI has protected the world, but with the destruction of the Engine, and a rogue killing super humans, the golden era of heroes has ended. Cool Jim Quig is about to find out what happens when a cape goes nutso.

If only he had just said no to the guy in the flashy suit.

How did you come up with your blog name?

irritated feline

When I naming this blog I toyed around with a few names: Sarah’s World, It was briefly this when I first started, The adventures of SacaKat, which it ended up being, The adventures of a SacaKat, Adventures of SacaKat and Being SacaKat. I even tried to come up with something more bookish later on but the adventures of SacaKat had stuck by that point.

So how da hell did I, Sarah Fairbairn be coming up wif da wacked out name SacaKat you ask? Well I was born with the initials S.A.C. and if my memory serves me correctly as early as year six in primary school I would sign drawings, letters etc. as SAC4EVA. Does anybody else remember when it was all the rage to call forever 4eva? Somehow in high school year 7 or 8 it just became SACA – Briefly SacaBaby in year 9 thanks to Crystal and Chris. It stayed as SACA for roughly fourteen years as a nickname and way to sign artwork and letters to friends.

I was toying with the whole SacaKat thing around the time I was “finding myself”, which corresponded with the birth of my son and setting up this blog. Angry_679a4f_3008958 I like Tigers, Cheetahs, Panthers and Cats in general. I love their fierceness, strength and stealth. I also like looking at cute photos of kittens on the internet, but seriously who doesn’t. I don’t actually own a cat as my husband despises them,
but I feel that my spirit animal or patronus would have to be some sort of easily irritated feline – hence the Kat.

The adventures of part I got from Winne the Pooh.

So how did you guys come up with your blog names? Was it something you agonised over? Or did it come to you all by its self while you were sitting on the toilet at 2am? I’d love to hear your story.
